Verizon and T-Mobile plan to launch Android smart phones
The success of AT&T’s iPhone 3GS over the weekend has inspired its competitors to follow suit: two major U.S. wireless providers, Verizon and T-Mobile, each plan to release Android-based Motorola smartphones by the end of the year, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The phones are intended to compete with the latest handset releases of two other major carriers: AT&T’s iPhone 3GS and Sprint’s Palm Pre. There has been speculation that both the iPhone and the Pre would cross over to other providers, but concrete plans to do so have not materialized. This news suggests that these providers, Verizon in particular, is further than ever from making a deal to carry either of these popular models.
