Bit.Trip Core, Bust-A-Move Plus! top Nintendo DLC

Submitted by admin on Monday, 6 July 2009No Comment

Nintendo’s going retro for this week’s updates to its online store, with ’80s-inspired Bit.Trip Core hitting the shelves today along with a virtual console revival of Commodore 64’s beach-themed California Games.

The sequel to Gaijin Games’ WiiWare offering Bit.Trip Beat, the rhythm-based Bit.Trip Core puts players in control of a stationary cross-shaped cannon at the center of the screen as they shoot down “bits” that cross the playfield. Players are punished for missing too many bits by flashing laser-light-show visuals and muting the soundtrack. The game can be played by up to two players and costs 600 Wii points.*

Also out is Taito’s puzzle game Bust-A-Move Plus! (WP600), which has 1-2 players traverse 135 levels in six different planetary environments. Rounding out this week’s WiiWare updates is Heracles: Chariot Racing (WP800), which lets players control the ancient Greek hero as he races his horse-drawn transport down ancient roadways. Up to four players can gallop through 10 mythic landscapes and throw tridents, fireballs, and lightning bolts at their opponents.

The Wii’s Virtual Console will see a revival of Commodore 64 game California Games. This summertime sports game includes a hodgepodge of beach-themed sports in the Golden State like skateboarding, surfing, roller-skating, Frisbee, and BMX. California Games supports one to four players and costs 500 Wii points.

On the Nintendo DS, players can download a new racing game, Asphalt 4: Elite Racing for 800 DSi points. Racers can choose among 28 sports cars and motorcycles in eight 3D urban raceways. Also this week is Art Style: BASE 10 (500 DSi points), a number game where players make combinations of 10 by sliding numbers around the playfield.

*100 Wii/DSi points = $1
